Frank Kramer on the Sale of Harvard Bookstore

Frame-about_us_banner "To our many friends, customers, and supporters, Yes. It's hard for even me to believe, but it's true. Harvard Book Store is for sale.

Now that the news is out in the media, I want to say a few words to you. I know many of you personally and I can honestly say that building our customer relationships has been the best part of running Harvard Book Store.

I am moving on because I've been running the store for forty-six years and it is time for me to do something new. The store is not closing. I am reasonably healthy and there is no urgency to this process. We have a stellar group of managers, all of whom are planning to remain here. The thoughtful service you receive from our staff of knowledgeable booksellers will continue, as will our author event series. Harvard Book Store will exist as long as our customers support us. Purchasing your books from Harvard Book Store, instead of from chains and online retailers, will ensure our presence for years to come.

Harvard Book Store celebrated its 75th anniversary last year and nothing would make me happier than to believe that it will be here for another seventy-five years under independent ownership. I cannot and will not sell to a chain. As I look for a new owner, my primary goal is to find a person or group of people who know and love the store for what it has been and who have a vision for a future that honors that history.

Please feel free to email me at frank@harvardbookstore.com with your thoughts and questions.

All the best, Frank Kramer"
